2022 Summer Assignments

Summer "Rock Talk"

Summer Rock Talk is a new option for students this year, one that we hope will provide a community for our curious and thoughtful students.  We are excited to offer this to students and hope to see it grow into a new Glen Rock tradition!

More information can be found on our website

Summer Rock Talk will be flexible, adaptable, and most importantly, catered specifically for students. Students will receive four newsletters over the course of the summer, each with a curated list of articles, videos, podcasts, and app recommendations to help them explore and engage with the topics they choose.  Twice (on July 20th and August 17th) we will host in-person gatherings at school for an evening of discussion and community, and Summer Rock Talk participants will be invited to a fun event (to be determined) in September once school resumes.

Summer Rock Talk topics will include:

  • Travel with Ms. Romanski & Mr. Giraldo: Discover the road less wandered by discussing travel plans, ideas, and dreams while learning to get the most out of your vacation. Join us as we uncover what it means to be a traveler and not a tourist, how to honor the customs and cultures of the places you visit and how to build a life that prioritizes exploring and preserving the planet we all call home
  • Sustainability with Ms. Jaretsky & Ms. Marrotte: Learn more about our rapidly changing environment. Empower yourself and others to take action while finding ways to lead a more sustainable life
  • Personal Development with Mr. Giraldo: Want to learn more about budgeting and investing, organization and time management, building consistent and obtainable habits, becoming a better leader, and creating effective content online? Join us and your peers as we dive into our own personal development. We promise you will emerge with renewed energy, curiosity, and confidence to be your best self.
  • Social Issues with Ms. Jones: Have you ever wanted to do more to contribute to this developing society? Learn how to use your privilege as power, while ADDRESSING the intersectionality that is you. Take action for a cause you care about and learn about new perspectives as you take steps to become a global citizen. Uncover your passion, your path and your purpose, while engaging with your friends. All are welcome to join and explore themselves, in this open and honest community.

Of course, if students are uninterested or unable to participate in this experience due to travel plans or other conflicts, they are encouraged to read any book of their choosing over the summer. The Glen Rock Public Library offers extensive summer programming, and your students’ teachers would be happy to make recommendations.
